Introducing the new Northwich Rowing Club Welfare Officer – Lisa Murphy.  Lisa has recently moved to Northwich, having lived in Manchester before moving. Lisa says “I've never rowed in my life!! From a welfare point of view, I'm a qualified social worker, with 17 years working with children and families services, including 6 years as a Children's Guardian, representing the welfare of children in family court cases, which is my current  job. I am registered with the General Social Care Council, (GSCC).”

“I think it may be helpful to encourage the members to know that they can contact me anytime on the e-mail address (nrcwelfareofficer@rocketmail.com) that has been set up specifically for welfare, and if they are unsure if something is a welfare issue, then ask anyway. If it is not a welfare issue then I'll do my best to point them in right direction.”
Where children and young people are under the care and/or control of one or more adults, the adult(s) have  a duty to take responsible care to ensure their safety. This duty rests, at different levels, on the coach, the club and it's management or officers, the ARA and those who advise it.

Fundamentally, duty of care means that a rowing club needs to take such measures as are reasonable in the circumstances, to ensure that individuals will be safe in participating in the training or racing which they have been offered or which is permitted at the club.

Duty of care is the duty to ensure the safety and welfare of others, it occurs in two ways: a LEGAL duty of care and a MORAL duty of care
