Junior
Squad Race Reports
Northwich Rowing club Juniors have been racking up more wins on their
list over the past two weekends. At Ironbridge Regatta, the Junior 16
double of Shane Dickinson and Sam Coverley beat Stourport in the final
while the girls junior 13 double of Kate Meehan and Sam Over beat
Bristol to win their event. Kate and Sam were then joined by Ashleen
Hudson, Libby Weltman and cox Emma Roberts in the women’s
junior 13 quad to take the glory.
Not to be outdone, the Junior 13 boys crew of Nathan Jump, Zac Trigg, Liam Adamson, Tom Asteriades and cox Craig Milne beat Avon County to take the winners title.
Closer to home on Saturday, team raced at Runcorn Junior Regatta on the Weaver 300m sprint. Ashleen Hudson won Bronze in the junior 13 singles. Sam Over and Kate Meehan raced five times to take Gold in the girls junior 13 doubles. Again, the girls junior 13 quad of Kate Meehan Sam Over Ashleen Hudson Libby Weltman cox Emma Roberts had a successful weekend, taking silver.
There was equal success for the boys with the junior 13 double of Ryan Gamble and Alex Murphy taking Gold as well as the boys junior 13 coxed quad of Nathan Jump, Alex Murphy, Liam Adamson Tom Asteriades and cox Craig Milne.
The club now has one of it’s strongest squads in years with over 60 active rowers between 12 and 18. In two weeks time, the women’s J15 Double Scull of Chloe Weston and Becky Jones along with the women’s Junior double sculls Rhianne Wynne and Mary Hunt will be taking part at the National Championships in Nottingham.
A number of previous Northwich Juniors were recently competing at the
prestigious Henely Royal Regatta. George and Will Laughton,
representing Leander Club were disappointed to get knocked out in the
semi final of the Ladies’ Challenge Plate for eights to the
eventual winners, Brown University of the USA.
Matt Langridge wins at Henley, the Leander Club & Reading Univ. Crew Matt was racing with beat Waiariki R.C., New Zealand to win the Stewards Cup (Elite 4-) on 05-Jul-09.

Northwich
Rowing Club attended
3 regattas in the region over the weekend (13th-14th June).
On
Saturday one trailer set
off for Trentham Regatta near Stoke while the other headed for
Trentham
Boat Club
hosted their first regatta in 21 years at their new boathouse on
NRC
returned 2 wins Novice
Men’s Double Sculls and J13 coxed quad
The
junior boy’s quad had a
good start winning with a comfortable lead of 6 lengths against their
rivals
Runcorn RC. The novice double crew also has a convincing win against
The Grange
School RC and Liverpool Victoria RC.

The
junior 14 girl’s coxed
quad was sandwiched between two

J16 double Sam Coverley and
Shane Dickinson came second to the powerful Runcorn RC double, despite
having
an early lead they were level at the 500 m mark being closely beaten by
1 ½
lengths in a very exciting well matched race.
Loughborough
Regatta; NRC
Senior and Junior crews were competing. The
conditions were perfect on the 1000 m course, which is a rare novelty
for this
venue which can be hampered by strong cross winds. This regatta
attracts crews
from the south and the competition is very high. NRC returned 1 win
WJ15 coxed
quad. The coaches decided to mix the WJ14 and WJ15 crews to give them a
race.
Although there was no other opposition it gave the Northwich girls good
experience and familiarization of the multi lane venue where they hope
to race
at National level next year.
Rhian
Wynne had a very good
race in the WIM3 single scull, winning the heat however coming second
in the
final.

National Veteran Championships This event attracted the largest entry this year of 420 crews resulting in 413 races through the day. Two Eights; Vet D and Women’s Vet B competed on Sunday in the prestigious Veteran event competing against crews from across the UK in the multi lane 1000 m course. The Defending Champions NRC men’s eight qualified in the semi final but came 5th in the final. The women’s eight was a straight 5 boat final with NRC finishing 4th beating rivals Grosvenor RC by a canvas. Both crews agreed they had raced well against very strong competition.
