Northwich Rowing Club attended 3 regattas in the region over the weekend (13th-14th June).

On Saturday one trailer set off for Trentham Regatta near Stoke while the other headed for Nottingham, Holme Pierrepont, The National Water Sports Centre which hosted Loughborough Regatta on Saturday and The National Veteran’s Championships on Sunday.

Trentham Boat Club hosted their first regatta in 21 years at their new boathouse on Trentham Lake which opened in 2008. A perfect venue raced over 750 meters; it was a well represented event with clubs from across the region competing.

NRC returned 2 wins Novice Men’s Double Sculls and J13 coxed quad

The junior boy’s quad had a good start winning with a comfortable lead of 6 lengths against their rivals Runcorn RC. The novice double crew also has a convincing win against The Grange School RC and Liverpool Victoria RC.

Winning Crews, Trentham Regatta:

Novice Double Scull: George Clarke, Tom Curwell

J13 coxed Quad: (bow) Nathan Jump, Zak Trigg, Liam Adamson, Tom Asteriades, Cox Craig Milne.

The junior 14 girl’s coxed quad was sandwiched between two Grange School crews in their event. The crew raced well and held their nerve in this intimidating position but was beaten into second place.

The J16 double Sam Coverley and Shane Dickinson came second to the powerful Runcorn RC double, despite having an early lead they were level at the 500 m mark being closely beaten by 1 ½ lengths in a very exciting well matched race.

Loughborough Regatta; NRC Senior and Junior crews were competing. The conditions were perfect on the 1000 m course, which is a rare novelty for this venue which can be hampered by strong cross winds. This regatta attracts crews from the south and the competition is very high. NRC returned 1 win WJ15 coxed quad. The coaches decided to mix the WJ14 and WJ15 crews to give them a race. Although there was no other opposition it gave the Northwich girls good experience and familiarization of the multi lane venue where they hope to race at National level next year.

Rhian Wynne had a very good race in the WIM3 single scull, winning the heat however coming second in the final.

Winning Crew, Loughborough Regatta:

WJ15 coxed quad

National Veteran Championships This event attracted the largest entry this year of 420 crews resulting in 413 races through the day. Two Eights; Vet D and Women’s Vet B competed on Sunday in the prestigious Veteran event competing against crews from across the UK in the multi lane 1000 m course. The Defending Champions NRC men’s eight qualified in the semi final but came 5th in the final.
