Vet Women Success on the Severn!
Saturday, 9th May saw yet another successful weekend for Northwich Rowing Club. The successful crew of the day was the Women's Vet B Eight who had a nail biting race against Grosvenor RC over 1,000 m upstream. Their opposition led from the start and Northwich chased them down the course, with a positive lift at 300 metres to go, they pushed for the finish and won by 1/4 length.
The weather was cool, bright with blustery cross winds and their opposition was a mixture of novice and very experienced rowers. The Crew members were Carolyn MacRitchie, Melanie Wakefield, Carole Riddell, Clare Briegal, Kerry Briggs, Nicola Smith, Karen Airey, Nadia Ankrah and Cox Jonty Moore.
Graduates from the club's learn to row scheme were in attendance and raced well having the first taste of regatta racing. Unfortunately there were no wins for them but they are preparing for the next event which will be Chester Regatta next weekend for the Men and Juniors.
Junior Squad Wins the day at Merseyside Regatta!
The junior section of Northwich Rowing Club were out in force at Mersey Regatta on Saturday and came home with an impressive total of six wins. The men's novice coxed four of Peter Tolson, Jack Palmer, George Clarke, Tom Curwell and cox Sophie Mather took honours in their event while in the junior categories the honours were shared evenly among the girls and boys squads. The men's J16 double scull of Shane Dickenson and Sam Coverley won their event, as did Nathan Jump, Tom Asteriades, Zack Trigg, Alex Murphy and cox Craig Milne in the junior 13 coxed quad event.
The winning girls crews were Becky Jones, Chloe Weston, Beth Wynne, Lizzy Bennet and cox Andy Morrison in the women's J15 coxed quad. Beth and Chloe also went on to win the doubles event in the same age category. The younger junior 13 double of Sam Over and Kate Mehan also won in their category.
Other performances of note include the intermediate men's double of Alex Riddell and Max Andrews who faced a dead heat and re-row in their final but sadly just missed out on taking the title. Liam Adamson and Joseph Ronald also performed well in the junior 13 double.
Spring Head blessed with sunshine and plenty of wins!
Northwich Rowing Club hosted the annual Head of the River Race on Saturday 4th April, over 2350 metres on the stretch of the river Weaver between Vale Royal and Hunt's Locks. With over 200 crews racing, 25 from the club itself, the event was blessed with glorious sunshine and good racing conditions.
Once again the club veterans continued their successful season with three wins. The veteran D eight was the fastest of their boat type for the day and the crew of Bob Jepson, Simon Crouchley, Geoff Simms, Ray Smith, Paul Clay, Andrew Malins, Phil Crump, Doug Pickup and cox Jonty Moore clocked an impressive time of 8.03 minutes, 18 seconds ahead of their closest opposition from Grosvenor club from Chester. Members of the eight went on to the next division to race in a vet D quad and once again took honours in a time of 8.45. The veteran E men's coxed four of Simon Bannister, Brian Roberts, Mike Francis, Steve Wignall and cox James Morrison showed the strength of the squad and completed the course in 9.58 to win their classification.

The Head Committee would like to say a big "Thank You" to all who volunteered their time on Saturday at the Spring Head Race.
The event was very successful and it couldn't have happened without your help and support!
We set a new record of sales in the Tea Tent; which is famous within our NW Region.
The club is now preparing for the summer season including the regatta on 25th May which marks the 125th anniversary of the event on the River Weaver.

HORR and Vesta Veterans' Head
On Saturday 21st March the senior and Junior men were racing in London at the Head of the River on the Tideway. The event which attracted numerous Olympic medalists is held over the Boat Race course of four and a half miles. The first Northwich crew (our Vet D 8+) finished 278th and our Junior eight crew, rowing on the Tideway for the first time, came in 352nd out of the 409 entrants.
Matt Langridge, our Northwich Olympian, was in the Leander 1st 8 that came second overall to a crew from Tideway Scullers, containing most of the top scullers from around the world including Alan Campbell (GB) and Mahe Drysdale (NZ).
On Sunday 22nd the Veteran men who have had a successful winter season raced at the men's veteran head, also on the Tideway. They finished an impressive 6th place in their category out of 36 crews and 21st overall. The crew, who won at the veteran Henley regatta last year hope to do the same this summer and on current form it looks very promising.
Veteran D crew

Our Vet E crew, a composite with two rowers from Warrington RC, finished 79th overall and 9th in their category.

Northwich Rowing Club Hosts Junior Time Trial
Northwich Rowing Club hosted the North West Junior Time Trial on Saturday 21st March on the River Weaver. This Head race of 1500 meters is open solely to junior crews, the winning crews subsequently selected to represent the NW region at the Junior Inter Regional Championships held in April at Nottingham.
It was a very successful day attracting a large attendance of juniors from 12 clubs in the region, ranging in ages from 13 to 18 years.
Racing took place over three divisions through the day. Everyone was delighted with the spring sunshine unfortunately conditions deteriorated during the day but it didn't dampen the young athletes' enthusiasm for the event.
Stoke / Trentham RC was the most successful club with wins in all three divisions totaling 7 overall.
Northwich RC crews gave good opposition in each division and age category returning two wins; for the junior 13 girls and boys. Unfortunately, this age isn't included in the Regional Regatta for safety reasons. The boys beat their rivals Runcorn RC by 6 seconds finishing the course in 06:56.29 and the girls had a very close race against rivals The Grange School winning by less than a second in 07:18.08
Winning Crews:
J13 coxed Quad: Liam Adamson, Zak Trigg, Tom Asteriades, Nathan Jump
